| Bio: | Born October 64 in Northern NJ. 5th child of a Puerto Rican mother and an Italian father (2nd generation). Lived in Linden, NJ; Juncos Puerto Rico; Cinnaminson, NJ; East Hanover, NJ. After High School, took a business computer programming course in Norristown, PA on the cusp of needing a degree from a 4 year university. Took an electronics course in Allentown, PA. Landed a job with Bell Labs out of the electronics course and started my independent life in the late 80s. Worked for the labs until I moved to San Jose to do customer support for a small software firm and became a self-taught systems admin. Got together with my partner Kevin in January 94. Got married in the Episcopal Cathedral in San Jose in October 95. In 1999 I indulged in a mid-life crisis and decided to go get a college degree and change careers. Moved to Oakland, stopped college and went back to work just as the dot-bomb went off. Did a short stint at UCSF, but landed at KQED.org and have been there since 2002 doing Unix system admin, among other things. I am a generalist, not a specialist. In September of 2005, we moved to San Francisco.
I have also been rather involved in not-for-profits. Was the founding treasurer for the AIDS Services Center in Allentown, PA in 1989. Treasurer and President of the now defunct High Tech Gays. Was a board member then president of our San Jose neighborhood association. Did a short stint on the board of ARIS, then went off to be VP and President of the DeFrank Center in San Jose during which time we secured signicant support from the city for the new location right on The Alameda. Haven't done much since moving to Oakland. That may be changing, not sure.
